If you want something new or to clean out your wardrobe, come along to our clothes swap and make sure to bring your friends too! The event is free and open to all, so it’s perfect timing to refresh your wardrobe for the spring – but there's only 30 places, so make sure to sign up quick on Eventbrite.
Fashion has become an industry with one of the highest levels of environmental pollution and social injustice, so we encourage people to be sustainable in their fashion consumption and disposal. Through clothes swaps and restyling, we aim to create and maintain a circular economy that reduces fashion waste and keeps clothes from ending up in the landfill.
HOW THE SWAP WORKS
1. Bring 1 – 15 items of clothing or accessories to add to the swap collection pool. We will welcome drop-offs from 9am–5pm on the day before (Thursday 20th September) at the Student Experience and Career Development Office, next to Davey Lodge at 1/25 Childers St.
2. Please note that guests can only begin taking swap items after the intro by the host at the start of the event, which will include a short styling workshop. After the workshop, guests can try on any garments and accessories and then take home as much as they like. A changing room will be available.
3. At the end of the swap, participants can choose to take home remaining items they brought that have not been taken or they can leave them at the swap to be donated to charity.
SWAP GUIDELINES
Clothes brought to the swap must be clean and in good condition: not too heavily worn out, faded or too damaged. (Good quality like something you would give to your best friend).
We cannot guarantee guests will find their sizes. It depends on other guests that attend and what they bring, therefore we encourage all sizes to participate in the swap.
What to bring: dresses, pants, skirts, tops, shoes, bags, scarves, hats, jewellery.
What NOT to bring: swimwear, underwear, nightwear.
Value of items: decent mall/online brands, vintage, quality fabric, handmade, retro, etc.
Feel free to contact gabriela.freeman@anu.edu.au with any questions. We are also looking for volunteers to help set up from 4pm, so please reach out if you’re interested!
If you can no longer make it, please make sure to contact an organiser so that we can give your spot to someone else.
